FFWD Launches the Next RYOT Family

As one of our most successful models the RYOT has proven itself as a reliable partner for many cyclists at all levels. Many teams rely on these wheels in their competitions resulting in beautiful victories. The success of these wheels will only increase with the modern innovations that we have applied in the next RYOT.

WIDE

The updated rim will now have a 23mm internal width to insure a better fit for wider tires. Staying true to our philosophy the (road) rims remain hooked, ensuring all riders to choose their preferred setup of tires. Whether it’s tubeless or using an inner tube.

LIGHT

The new production techniques that we implemented in the RAW rims are now also applied to the RYOT rims, resulting in a significant weight reduction. With the next RYOT family we also launch a new set of redesigned hubs under the name N/GAGE. During this development we were able to shave off another few grams by eliminating excess material. Both updates result in average weight saving of 100 grams per set. While chasing weight gains we never compromise on durability. That’s why you will not find aluminum nipples or miniscule bearings to lower the weight even further.

BRIGHT

The design completely changed to a more modern, minimal artwork. Here we also looked at elements of its bigger brother -RAW- and translated this to a design of its own for the new RYOT. All changes apply to the whole RYOT family from the 33, 44, 55 and 77 models which represents the respective rim height. The best part is that all these improvements come at the same price!

FFWD RYOT – Questions and Answers

The N/GAGE hub replaces the TWO/ONE hub. What is the difference?
Our biggest aim was to reduce the weight of the hubs. Taking another look at the design and refining this enabled us to remove excess material. The result is a more subtle design which saves 50 grams on the set. We took it a step further even; using an improved hub finish and a laser etched logo instead of waterslide decal the shell itself is even more durable. As you may expect from us we didn’t jeopardize the durability of the hubs nor the wheels in search of weight savings.

Wider rims; what does that mean for the compatible tire sizes?
The internal rim width of the new RYOT family is 23mm and requires a minimum tire size of 25mm. This is already less common in today’s standard, which is usually 28mm. Especially the even wider road tires like 30mm and 32mm will benefit from the increased rim width.

Lighter rims; how exactly?
During the development of the RAW family, introduced in Spring ’24, we completely recalculated the carbon layup of the rims. The new RYOT family uses a layup that is closely derived from the one used in the RAW models. Together with the weight reduction achieved in the hubs the RYOT wheels have become significantly more competitive.

What are the benefits of hooked rims?
We want our road wheels to be compatible with the majority of available tires and tire sizes. With hooked rims you can pick any tire setup; tubeless, a traditional tube/tire combination or a smooth cotton skinwall tires with a latex innertube. For more info on this subject check out this story explaining our philosophy.

How about compatibility and where to get the spare parts?
In the design of FFWD hubs we chose to make them compatible with (most) other versions. The spare parts like end caps and rotors are all interchangeable with other FFWD hubs like the TWO/ONE or the TYRO hubs for example. All parts are kept in stock at FFWD and directly available.
