FFWD Launches the Fastest Wheel in History – The Falcon

At Eurobike 2018 FFWD Wheels presented Project Falcon in cooperation with M5. We are now pleased to announce the launch of the fastest bicycle wheel in history.

THE WHEEL

The Falcon wheel features a revolutionary design employing only two NACA profile shaped spokes in the center of the wheel and a rim profile with a variable depth arc from 48mm to 90mm.

This unique design results in the least amount of aerodynamic resistance which significantly reduces drag and increases watt savings. In wind conditions most frequently encountered on the road in the real world (0-10 degrees), the Falcon outperforms competitive front wheels by a savings up to 9 watts.

MATERIALS + TESTING

The FFWD Falcon is manufactured using Toray 800 and 1000 series UD carbon fiber. The materials and lay up schedule utilized are carefully chosen to reach the optimal balance and stiffness to weight ratio for this revolutionary wheel.

The Falcon has also been developed with tire width in mind ensuring optimal aerodynamics with wider tires.

Since the initial project presentation FFWD initiated intensive development and testing utilizing CFD (computational fluid dynamics), the wind tunnel and field testing to arrive at the final product.

During development FFWD sponsored team riders from Total Direct Energie and Arkea-Samsic tested a variety of prototypes in training and during competition and provided very positive feedback on the overall performance and handling.

OPTIONS + AVAILABILITY

For road time-trials and triathlons the Falcon will be offered as single front or rear and as a F/R set in tubular and tubeless ready carbon clincher models with rim or disc brake.

In addition, the Falcon will also be offered as a tubular track front wheel or F/R set where testing has proven a Falcon paired with rear DISC is more aerodynamic than other current wheel combinations.

Color options include white and matte black and the Falcon can be ordered at this link.  All models are expected to be available in October 2019 with US MSRP of $1,899/wheel.
